Sharing Your Faith with Your Children

Today’s families are in constant motion. It often feels as though we spend more time in our cars than our family rooms. How can we find time to share our faith?

Take advantage of the time in the car. You have a captive audience and it’s easier than you think. First spend some time thinking about your faith. Why is being part of the church important to you? Did you go to church when you were growing up? How is it different or the same? What was your favorite Bible story? Did your family or friend influence you? Did you participate in a Christmas Pageant or the choir? How has your relationship with God influenced your life?

Now that you have an idea of what you want to share with your children, think about how to get the conversation started. In just a couple weeks we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas. It’s an easy and natural time to bring up the subject. A Christmas song on the radio, reminiscing   about a family event or tradition can lead to sharing. (Remember to keep stories age appropriate.)

You don’t need to share everything at one time. Short conversations in the car may keep their attention and not over whelm you. You may find those short conversations lead to longer discussions in the family room. See the calendar for the schedule events.
